In 2018 after coaching for 3 years and training under Elite Professionals I decided to make a large step in my career be pursuing my own certification. Becoming a member of the RSPA, formerly the USPTA, has allowed me to continue my education as as professional instructor and obtain partnerships with reputable brand such as Babolat and Wilson.
"I started playing with Jordan a year ago and he has completely changed my game, and deeply reinvigorated my love of tennis.
When I first started playing with Jordan, I hadn't taken a tennis lesson in 20 years and I was playing fine, but I wasn't going to improve unless I made significant changes. Jordan coached me through big changes to my groundstrokes, volleys, and even my mental approach to the game, without it ever feeling daunting or frustrating.
His mind-body approach combines technique, mindfulness, and playfulness, and in every session I learn something new about both a technical element of playing and a mental approach to playing. Jordan is both very methodical and also very flexible: if I'm stuck on something, he'll find new ways to offer feedback until it clicks.
He is a true coach: pushing you to develop as a player and a person. It has been deeply rewarding to re-learn tennis with him and I highly recommend him as a coach no matter your level of experience."

"In the few sessions I've trained with Jordan, I've been thoroughly impressed. He crafts well-structured lessons that consider my individual needs, such as working around limitations tied to previous injuries. Jordan focuses on building a strong foundation, which is exactly what I was hoping for. He doesn't just push me through exercises; he explains the 'why' behind them and gives me things to think about beyond the physical aspect (i.e., the mental game). I can't wait to see what I can achieve under his guidance."

The most important pieces of gear are tennis specific shoes and the racket. Tennis shoes are the most important for safety reasons. Running shoes have a higher risk of easily rolling an ankle, but if you are a just getting started any closed toe shoe will work. I also have loner rackets that can be borrowed until you are ready to commit to purchasing your own.
Tennis racket companies boast all types of claims but the general rule is if you are just starting look for rackets with larger head sizes (100in-105in), lower in swing weight (~10oz) often marketed as "power rackets". One example is the Babolat Pure Drive Lite and you can compare different models on TennisWarehouse.com. I can give further personalized recommendations in person after training.
Until about 13-14 years old most children will need junior rackets. The simplest way to check for sizing is to have them hold the bottom of the grip like a hammer by their side in a relaxed posture. The racket should be a few inched off of the ground. The younger they are the less I would recommend you spend as they will grow out of them quickly and may find other interests.
Yes! I began my tennis coaching career working with 3-5 year-olds, and worked my way up teaching every age and every level. For private lessons I generally recommend waiting unit they are about 8 years old, but it depends on their individual interest in the sport and their ability to focus.
At Mindful Athlete Mentoring, we work with clients of all ages and backgrounds, including individuals, families, and groups. We also work with clients who have a wide range of health and wellness goals, from weight loss and nutrition to stress management and fitness.
I operate primarily out of Brooklyn, but am able to travel.
